Jumprings & Beads…

April 25th, 2012

The first couple of months of this year were pretty quiet on the jewellery making front until I attended the Scottish Bead Fair. I held onto my purse strings tightly but they loosened at the Bead Sisters and the Monty’s Beads stands. I couldn’t resist. I bought some jumprings and a gorgeous strand of reinforced agate, which led me to create these…

Cufflinks for my better half…

April 25th, 2012

When I started this project the idea was to create a pair of ‘Scrabble’ tiles, one bearing my initial & the other bearing my boyfriends’. Once I formed the tile shape, it occurred to me that Scrabble was one of MY most favourite pass times…Not his! So I thought for a while, about HIS interests, to make the gift more personal to him.

We went to Italy two years ago for a holiday with friends…It was stunning! Rome definitely left an imprint on our hearts. I tried to bring the memory of our Roman holiday alive, by recreating its skyline…

More Citrine for Christmas…with Gold!

April 25th, 2012

I was feeling quite confident after the precious metal course, so I attempted to work with some gold!

My mother made a request for some earrings to match a citrine pendant of hers. I sketched a couple of ideas & after a lot of ogling over the beautiful selection of gemstones on offer, I ordered two citrine stones from Kernow Craft. They arrived very quickly at a great price. Working with them was very fiddly indeed…but with much perseverance I handcrafted these…

I’ve been Busy!!

April 25th, 2012

Wow!! Its been a while since I’ve written here!! A lot has happened since July! My sister is now happily married, & I have decided to focus my creative passions on silver. I have been attending the Precious Metal Workshop in Edinburgh…which is fantastic fun! I’ve met some like minded people who get excited by shiny stones, metals and tools! My tools have expanded quite dramatically! (Yey!) So much so they’re starting to take pride of place in the livingroom next to my Jeweller’s bench!:-) I love it!! My man does too…he loves tools! Here’s one of my projects sooo far…

…This ring is now set with an oval faceted citrine, pictures will follow shortly!

My Sister’s Wedding

November 30th, 2011

After giving my sister a sneaky peek at my collection of little home made treasures, she became quite excited about my first piece of Sterling Silver Jewellery, the Sterling Silver Bracelet with Freshwater Pearls.

The piece was a ‘what if I do this?’ experiment with some Silver Wire. I had a vision of the outcome in my imagination….but by working the silver I realised the limitations and opportunities it gave me and with the limited number of craft tools I owned at the time (It has since grown dramatically!!) the completed piece took a form of its own…quite organically!

After looking at this bracelet my sister decided to give me the responsibility to create her Wedding Jewellery for her big day at the end of this month! So on the day of the other wedding of the year in front of the TV, I got to work hand crafting some silver wire to attempt to recreate a larger version of the bracelet, with the same tools, I formed a matching Sterling Silver necklace with Freshwater Pearls.
